Flat Tire Without a Spare? Your Roadside Options

Trinity changes flat tires using your usable spare. If you do not have one, we can help with a tow home or to a tire shop near Deer Park.

Trinity changes flat tires using the customer's usable spare. We do not supply spare tires or replacement tires. If you do not have a usable spare, we can assist with a tow home or to a tire shop.

When you call, start with your location, vehicle, and whether a spare is available. If you are unsure about its condition, say so. We can discuss a tire change or a tow based on what the vehicle needs.

What counts as a usable spare?

Having a spare in the vehicle is only part of the answer. It needs to be suitable for the vehicle and in serviceable condition. A spare that is flat, damaged, or the wrong fit cannot be treated as a ready replacement.

If you do not know the spare's condition, say that when arranging help. If the wheels use locking lug nuts, mention whether you have the key. The provider can explain what needs to be checked before a change is possible.

Temporary spares have vehicle-specific limits. Follow the owner's manual and the information on the spare rather than assuming it can be driven like a regular tire.

When is a tire change an option?

A compatible, serviceable spare can make a roadside tire change an option. The vehicle's condition, access to the wheel, and the working location still need to be considered.

Do not assume a spare means a tire should be changed wherever the vehicle happens to stop. Tell the provider if the damaged tire is beside moving traffic or the vehicle is in a difficult position. If anyone is hurt or there is immediate danger, call 911.

When should you discuss a tow instead?

Explain that you need another option if there is no spare, the spare cannot be used, or more than one tire is damaged. One spare will not replace two damaged tires.

Towing to a tire shop lets the vehicle reach a place that can assess the tire and arrange the appropriate repair or replacement. We can also assist with a tow home. If you choose a shop, confirm that it will accept the vehicle, particularly outside normal shop hours.

Ask what the roadside service actually includes. A spare-tire change, tire repair, and tire replacement are different services; do not assume one request covers all three. AAA's tire-service guidance also distinguishes installing a spare from arranging a tow when a spare is unavailable. Its membership terms apply to AAA service, not to a separate request to Trinity.

What should you tell us before we head out?

Share the vehicle's year, make, and model; how many tires are affected; whether you have a spare; and where the vehicle is sitting. On a highway, include the road, direction of travel, and a nearby exit or landmark.

If you already have a tire shop in mind, have its address ready. We can discuss the situation and whether you need a tire change or a tow without turning a simple request for help into a guessing game.
