When your vehicle breaks down, you need a plan to get it moved. Learn what a towing quote covers and how vehicle condition, access, and distance affect cost.

A breakdown leaves you with more to figure out than the price of a tow. You need someone who can reach your vehicle, move it with the right equipment, and take it where it needs to go. A useful quote should explain that plan as well as the cost.
At Trinity Towing & Recovery, we start with your situation: where you are, what happened to the vehicle, and where you want it taken. We usually quote a flat rate for the job. Each tow has its own challenges, so the price can vary with the distance, equipment, access, and work involved.
This F-150 had two damaged passenger-side tires. We used a wheel-lift and dollies to keep all four wheels off the road without dragging the damaged tires.
How a flat-rate quote can be broken down
The quoted amount reflects the work needed for your particular pickup and trip. Its breakdown may include:
Hook fee: The charge for connecting and preparing the vehicle for the tow.
Mileage: The distance used in calculating the towing charge. Confirm how it is counted for your trip.
Dollies, when needed: Used with a wheel-lift, dollies can keep all four wheels off the road, as a flatbed does. For suitable vehicles, this offers another way to transport the vehicle without its tires rolling on the pavement. The setup must suit the vehicle and its towing requirements.
Other service costs: An off-road recovery, accident, or difficult pickup location can require additional work and affect the price. Explain those conditions when requesting your quote.
For a pickup like the one pictured, dollies can simplify handling and avoid extra work during loading. The aim is to choose equipment that fits the job and protects the vehicle while it is being moved.
When comparing quotes, look at the full service each company is offering: the pickup, destination, equipment, and any recovery work. Ask how the operator plans to handle your vehicle, especially if it has damaged wheels or cannot roll. The price matters, and so does understanding what you are paying for.
Start with the pickup and destination
Have the pickup address and the drop-off address ready. If you are on SH-225 or Beltway 8, include your direction of travel and the nearest exit or cross street. For example, "SH-225 eastbound near Tidal Road" or "Center Street at Fairmont Parkway" is more useful than naming only the highway or neighborhood. Mention whether you are on the main road, a frontage road, or in a nearby parking lot. A map pin can help confirm the exact spot.
For a repair-shop delivery, confirm that the shop will accept the vehicle and ask where it should be left. That gives you a destination to discuss when arranging local towing.
Describe anything that makes the vehicle harder to move
Give the year, make, and model, then explain what happened. Mention damaged tires, a wheel that will not turn, a vehicle stuck in park, or anything else that might affect loading. You do not need to diagnose the problem to describe what you can see. A short, accurate description helps us prepare for the pickup and avoid delays in getting your vehicle off the roadside and on its way home or to a shop.
Access is worth explaining as well. A locked gate, parking garage, tight driveway, or vehicle off the pavement can change how a pickup needs to be approached. Mention those conditions before the operator arrives, rather than assuming every pickup can be handled the same way.
If the vehicle is stuck in mud or a ditch, ask about recovery service as well as the tow to its destination.
Ask what the quoted amount covers
A short conversation can make two quotes easier to compare. Ask whether the amount covers the full trip you described and whether anything remains to be confirmed.
Is the quote for this vehicle, pickup location, and destination?
Does it include any equipment or recovery work already discussed?
Could difficult access or additional recovery work change the quote?
What happens if the vehicle's condition differs from the description?
If anyone needs a ride, can passengers be accommodated on this tow?
Confirm the details for your particular trip before agreeing to the service. If passengers need a ride, explain how many people are with you when you call so seating availability can be discussed before dispatch.
